About
TRAILS—Tool for Real-time Assessment of Information Literacy Skills—is a project of Libraries and Media Services (LMS) at Kent State University. It is one of the initiatives of the Institute for Library and Information Literacy Education (ILILE), a federally-sponsored project to foster collaboration between teachers and librarians who are concerned with advancing library and information literacy in the PK-12 school curriculum.
LMS determined at the outset of the ILILE grant that one of its areas of focus would be to support the information literacy skills development of college-bound students. The goal of the TRAILS project was to create a tool for secondary education that would assist library media specialists in assessing the information literacy competencies of high school students. Specific objectives for the tool were that it would:
- Address the information literacy competencies outlined in the Ohio Academic Content Standards and Information Power;
- Be Web-based and available without charge;
- Be easy to administer;
- Provide reports on both individual and group outcomes;
- Insure privacy.
